How this tool works

Converts text to lowercase, removes accents where possible, keeps letters and numbers, and separates words with hyphens.

Understand the result

Unicode letters, including Urdu, are kept. This is not transliteration. Review the result before using it; changing a published URL may require a redirect.

How to use the URL Slug Generator

  1. Type or paste a page title, such as a product name or blog post headline.
  2. Press Generate. The tool converts it to lowercase, removes symbols and accents where possible, and joins the words with hyphens.
  3. Review and shorten the slug if needed, then copy it into your WordPress, Shopify or website editor.

What is a URL slug?

The slug is the last part of a web address that identifies a specific page. In example.com/blog/how-to-start-an-online-store, the slug is how-to-start-an-online-store. A clean slug helps people understand what a page is about before they click, and it is easier to share and remember.

Examples

  • “10 Essential Pages Every Business Website Needs!” → 10-essential-pages-every-business-website-needs
  • “Café Menu & Prices (2026)” → cafe-menu-prices-2026
  • “Men’s Oud Perfume — 100ml” → mens-oud-perfume-100ml

Best practices for SEO-friendly slugs

  • Keep it short. Three to six meaningful words is usually enough. You can drop filler words like “a”, “the”, “and” or “of”.
  • Include the main keyword people would search for.
  • Use hyphens, not underscores. Search engines read hyphens as word separators.
  • Avoid dates in slugs for content you plan to update, so the URL does not look outdated next year.
  • Stay consistent across your site — for example, always singular or always plural for product types.

Urdu and other non-Latin text

The generator keeps Unicode letters, including Urdu and Arabic. It does not transliterate them into English letters. Non-Latin slugs work in modern browsers, but when shared they are often displayed as long encoded strings (for example %D8%A7...). For most business websites, a short English or Roman Urdu slug is easier to share.

Changing a slug on a published page

Changing the slug of a page that is already live changes its URL. Old links from Google, social media and other websites will break unless you add a 301 redirect from the old URL to the new one. WordPress SEO plugins and Shopify’s URL redirects feature can do this for you.

Frequently asked questions

Do slugs affect Google rankings?

Slightly. Keywords in the URL are a minor signal, but clear slugs mainly help users understand and trust the link.

Should I include my brand name in the slug?

Usually not. Your domain already shows the brand, so use the space for words that describe the page.
