Text Compare: Find Differences Between Two Texts
Paste the original and updated text to see additions and deletions. Compare by line for documents and code, or by word for shorter edits.
Inputs are processed on your device. No account required.
Additions are highlighted in green; deletions in red with a strike-through. Text remains selectable.
Read the differences
The comparison keeps a common sequence of matching lines or tokens, then labels inserted and removed material. A replacement appears as removed text followed by an addition. This is useful for checking revisions to copy, notes, configuration files and plain-text exports.
Windows and Unix line endings are normalised before comparison. Other whitespace and letter case remain significant, so a spacing change can appear as a real difference. Moved content may appear as a deletion and an insertion rather than as a separate move operation.
Each input is limited to 100,000 characters and 1,600 comparison units. Word mode counts whitespace runs as units too. For long text, choose line mode or compare a smaller passage. This tool compares text; it does not establish plagiarism, authorship or factual correctness.
Frequently asked questions
Can I compare code or CSV?
Yes, as plain text. There is no syntax-aware interpretation, and changes to formatting remain visible.
Will the result update while I type?
Editing either input clears the previous result. Click Compare text again to produce a result for the latest inputs.
