Your time card

Use 09:00, 17:30 or 5:30 pm. Leave days off blank.

Working past midnight? An earlier finish time is treated as the next day. Matching start and finish times mean zero hours. This tool uses clock times on fixed 24-hour days, without time-zone or daylight-saving adjustments.
From timesheet to total

Three steps. No spreadsheet formulas.

Use the exact minutes worked. Round only when your own timekeeping policy requires it.

01 / ENTER YOUR TIMES

Start with the workday

Enter clock-in and clock-out times for each day you worked. A blank day is a day off, not an error.

02 / ACCOUNT FOR BREAKS

Subtract unpaid minutes

Enter the total unpaid break in minutes. Do not subtract paid breaks. A break cannot be longer than the shift.

03 / KEEP YOUR RECORD

Get a useful total

See hours and minutes alongside decimal hours. Download a CSV or use your browser to print or save a PDF.

The calculation

Simple inputs.
Transparent arithmetic.

Each clock time is converted into minutes after midnight. We subtract the start from the finish, add 1,440 minutes when the shift crosses midnight, and deduct the unpaid break.

Worked minutes = elapsed minutes − unpaid break

A 09:00–17:30 shift is 510 minutes. Subtract a 30-minute lunch and you get 480 minutes: 8:00 hours, or 8.0000 decimal hours.

A few everyday examples

ShiftUnpaid breakWorked
09:00–17:3030 min8:00
08:15–16:4545 min7:45
22:00–06:0030 min7:30
09:00–13:000 min4:00

When overtime is enabled for a biweekly period, each seven-day block gets its own calculation. A 45-hour week followed by a 35-hour week gives 5 overtime hours with a 40-hour weekly threshold, rather than averaging both weeks.

Frequently asked questions

Is this time card calculator free?

Yes. The calculator, CSV download and print layout are available without an account or subscription.

Can I enter AM and PM times?

Yes. Enter 9am, 9:00 am or 5:30 pm. You can also use 24-hour times such as 09:00 and 17:30. Minutes must use two digits after a colon.

Why is 7 hours 30 minutes shown as 7.5000?

Decimal hours use fractions of an hour. Thirty minutes is 30 ÷ 60 = 0.5 hours. Entering 7.30 as decimal hours would represent 7 hours 18 minutes.

What happens to my time card?

Calculations happen in this browser. Your entries are saved in browser storage only if you turn on draft saving. The tool does not submit your entries to a calculator server. Your hosting provider may still process normal request logs; see the privacy page.

Does this apply every overtime rule?

No. You set one weekly threshold and one multiplier. Daily overtime, double time, holiday premiums, paid time off, tax and other jurisdiction-specific payroll rules are not included.

Can this calculate a daylight-saving clock change?

No. It treats every day as 24 hours. Use a time-zone-aware record for shifts that cross a daylight-saving change or different time zones.
