Why consistent product images matter

When product photos come from different suppliers or phones, they arrive in different shapes and sizes. On a collection page this looks messy: some products appear tall, some wide, some cut off. Resizing every image to the same canvas makes your store look professional, keeps product grids aligned and helps shoppers compare items at a glance.

How to use the Product Image Resizer

  1. Drop up to 10 images (JPG, PNG or WebP, up to 15 MB each).
  2. Pick a canvas preset: Square 1200 × 1200, Large square 1600 × 1600, Portrait 1080 × 1350, Landscape 1920 × 1080, or enter custom dimensions.
  3. Choose how the image fits:
    • Fit with padding keeps the whole product visible and fills the empty space with a background colour. Best for products with unusual shapes.
    • Crop to fill fills the whole canvas and trims the edges. Best when the product sits in the middle with space around it.
  4. Pick a canvas colour — white is the standard for most marketplaces and stores.
  5. Choose JPG or WebP, set quality (around 85% is a good balance), then process and download.

Which size should I use?

  • Shopify and WooCommerce product images: a square 1200 × 1200 or 1600 × 1600 works well with most themes and allows zoom.
  • Instagram and Facebook feed posts: portrait 1080 × 1350 takes more space in the feed than a square.
  • Website banners and YouTube thumbnails: landscape 1920 × 1080 (16:9).
  • Google Merchant Center: square images of at least 800 × 800 px, with the product clearly visible and no added promotional text.

Whatever you choose, use the same ratio for every product in a collection.

Tips for better product photos

  • Leave a small, even margin around the product so it is not touching the edges.
  • Use a plain background for the main image and save lifestyle photos for additional images.
  • Shoot in daylight or soft light to avoid harsh shadows.
  • After resizing, compress the files with our image compressor so pages stay fast.

Frequently asked questions

Will resizing make a small image sharper?

No. Enlarging a small, low-resolution photo cannot add detail and may make it look blurry. Start with the largest original you have.

Should I use a white or transparent background?

White is safest for stores and marketplaces. Transparent backgrounds (WebP or PNG) are useful when your theme has a coloured background behind product images.
